The problem with Criminal Minds
Oct. 19th, 2008 12:15 amEarlier this evening took a break from watching S1 of Criminal Minds, and walked to the 7-11 while Mike put the baby to bed. I stepped out on the stoop, looked at the big empty parking lot across from the house, and pictured myself walking halfway across the parking lot and then vanishing while the theme music played.
Then I actually did cross the parking lot, and then an alley, and then another parking lot, because that's the quick route to the 7-11. There were some empty cars, and a guy milling around talking on his cell phone, and by the time I got to the 7-11 I was TOTALLY FREAKED OUT. I took a different route home, with more street traffic and less eerie darkitude, but I was still nervous. Maybe watching 12 episodes in 5 days is too many?
Nah.

Date: 2008-10-22 03:50 pm (UTC)Of course, one is less likely to be disintegrated by a robot than one is to be assaulted by a bum in a 7/11's parking lot.
Speaking of Reality... Have you noticed how, in Without A Trace, the FBI gets involved even if the person has been missing for only 5 hours?

Date: 2009-09-21 05:11 pm (UTC)OTOH, I adore that the characters holding the line against victim shaming, victim blaming, and people trying to make the victims "feel better" by minimizing the magnitude of the crime. Also, I like that the show doesn't pretend that misogyny isn't rampant. So even though the show makes me hyperaware of how vulnerable I am to people who are willing to break all the social rules, it also feels healing in some perverse way.
BTW, I'm here because I'm, dunno, a couple weeks out from getting S4 on DVD, and am struggling valiantly not to click the S4x1 and x2 spoilery post you just made. Because I SO WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY, the "but it says spoilers!" part of my brain isn't getting a whole lot of traction.
