Husband saw this (click thru and choose "interactive demo" from under the pic) on Graco's website and said "I want it! It's like having Cylons raise your baby!"

My favorite bit is when the Cylon lady is sitting and reading while the robot soothes the baby.

I think that it looks ungainly and creepy. Too much like an in-the-future therapy pod for babies. I like the idea of a human-cylone taking care of a baby, though.

Yeah, we settled on a fisher price swing that's slightly less creepy, in its marketing anyway: http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2002&e=product&pid=43883

In action, it's utterly creepy, because the baby reacts to it like we just ran a sooth-o-matic wire into his brain. He particularly loves the tinny music, which mixes bird-chirp noises in with Strauss. YIKES.

He also reacts as if drugged when I walk with him in my new Mamma's Milk sling, so the creepiness is really coming from seeing infant neurology in action. Um, I mean that's what the adorableness is coming from. Babies can't possibly ever be creepy, cough cough.

Part of why we picked this one is that I found it for 50% off at Target! Woo! It was in the original unopened box (and I checked ye internet to make sure it hadn't been discontinued/recalled) but someone had written on the outside "from [name]" So apparently it was a shower gift that got returned, but the writing on the box made it less sellable. YAY
