"Trouper" has been replaced in our family lexicon with "punk."

When Charlie was an infant, we often would say "he's/you're being such a trouper!" because he had to put up with a whole lot in the way of needles, skin lotions and potions, medicines, nose-suckers, nebulizers, etc, as well as having a constant itchy rash for 4 months, and he generally was compliant and not very tearful about it, even when he was feeling crappy and being forced to keep his hand covered all day (to prevent scratching...eczema sucks).

Now his health is much better, so the number of skin products required daily is much lower, and putting them on is faster, and his rashes clear up quickly and don't cause too much discomfort.  Also we mostly only have to wipe his nose when he's sneezy, instead of sucking it out 4 times a day to prevent respiratory & ear infections.  Unfortunately he's also 13 months old so he's learned how to throw a proper hissy fit, complete with flailing and whacking his head into people, over anything that he doesn't enjoy or that prevents him from doing whatever he's fixated on at the moment.  In the process of trying to avoid having his nose wiped this morning he jerked his head backwards, hit me in the jaw, and totally rang my clock.

He's being such a punk!

:)

Ah, the joys of them developing, learning how to assert independence, to declare their individuality... about 20 years before they have the wisdom to know WHEN they should be doing that, and when it's going to get them hurt.

Oh. My mom calls me punk as short for pumpkin. This caused some anger from middle-aged women when we were shopping together when I was a teenager and they saw this horrible woman addressing this tidily dressed, respectful young woman as "punk."

LOL, that's awesome. My mom calls me Duck as short for Duck Pie, but mostly not in public, thank goodness.

I call Charlie Punkaroo and Punkaroonie...it used to be Snookaroo and Snookaroonie but recent behavior has sort of morphed it.

Does he need a onesie that has a Social Distortion logo and the legend "Mommy's Little Monster" on it? Or would the dyes used to make it black with red trim be an issue?

He can tolerate dyes pretty well now that we've eliminated the majority of allergens from his diet. (THANK GOD) I usually avoid anything that says "monster" with him because of the old association of the word with deformity, but my husband thinks I'm being insanely oversensitive. We'll see what Charlie thinks as he gets older...little boys do like monsters.

I got him a shirt this weekend that says "Mommy's little rascal" though. There isn't one that says "I like to hit my mommy!" ...or I hope there isn't!

There's probably one that says "Driving Mom crazy is my job" -- or there should be.
Both my kids have the eczema curse -- it does seem to get better as they get older. The older on is allergic to dust mites and covering the mattress & pillows in those special dust-proof bags helped a lot.
