LJ's writer's block questions so rarely seem to apply to my life, or the lives of many of my f-list, today's "involved with a co-worker" one notwithstanding.*  This got me thinking about what sort of questions would be more in line with the kind of things I ruminate about.

  • Hypomania: useful, or annoying?
  • Why did you abandon the career plans you made in your early 20s?
  • Which is more convenient to live near: a bar, a library, a farmer's market, or a hospital?
  • Describe the last time you met or hung out with Neil Gaiman.
  • How many chronic illnesses do you have, and how do treatments for each one interfere with treatments for the others?
  • Which is more inconvenient, PTSD or GAD?
  • If you go to the mall with your family and/or household, how many people will stare at one or all of you?
  • What are your thoughts on the new Heinlein biography? If you did not receive an ARC, why not?
  • How much do you hate Wonder Woman's new origin story?
Etc.

From the publisher's blurb for a book of vintage erotic photography: "This is a book to relax with and enjoy over and over again."

Ok, various people are feeling insulted by the "I write like" analyzer.  Let's go pick on it!

If you put in a string of 5 to 10 words, that's enough to get it to tell you an author.  I'm certain it's looking for keywords, not analyzing structure.

To get Dan Brown, I put in this string:

"crucifix mountain scientist handsome foggy climbed archives raced"

James Joyce was even easier to get:

"the west song bridal faded potato"

And to get Shakespeare:

"thee thee thee thee thee thee thee thee thee thee" (it won't let you post a single word, but apparently repeating it is ok)

Go on, try it, and post your strings here if you're willing.  I know it has Hemingway, Lovecraft, Ian Fleming, and Bram Stoker, but I'm sure there are a bunch more results that can be extracted.  Anyone get Jane Austen yet?
