marydell: My hand holding a medusa head sculpture (by me) that's missing its snakes (CharlieChomp)

I've just spent an hour carefully covering every exposed part of the fabric strap on Charlie's new arm with waterproof first aid tape.

It's fabric, and as you can see in the pix from the previous entry, it lies across his chest when he's wearing the arm. It's riveted on to the shoulder piece so I can't remove it to launder it.   The implications of this became clear to me while I was feeding him his dinner last night.  Babies and unwashable things...just, no.

The things you learn! My grandmother used to make slipcovers for our computers (way back in the Old Days), so maybe a strap cover in launderable fabric over the waterproof tape?

I was just thinking that very thing. A set of washable strap covers with velcro, maybe? I bet you could commission those on Etsy for not too much money.

So less dinosaur now, and more mummy?

Heh. The dinosaur parts are still uncovered, since they're made of resin and whatnot. The strap parts are taped--oddly, with flesh-colored tape. So the arm is not flesh colored but the harness is, for the moment.

It is not the color of sweet potatoes and bananas, though, which is the key thing.

But ... it's a new hand! He has to baptise it in strained carrots! It's an essential part of the quality assurance process. :)
