marydell: My hand holding a medusa head sculpture (by me) that's missing its snakes (dolls)
[personal profile] marydell
After much consideration (and thank you all for the feedback, it was really helpful) I've just gone on Depo-Provera, in the hopes that it will totally stop my menstrual cycles.  In order to offset the likely side effects I need to embark upon a regimen of weight-bearing exercise, and various other exercisey things, and possibly also food related things.  I'll probably be writing about some of that, although any food stuff will take the form of "I cooked X tonight!" or "what do you do with rutabaga?" and not "this is my diet and my weight!" because, no.

I'll also be posting various things about dolls, because I sublimate much of my anxiety about physical things into doll collecting, in a complex, weird and expensive process. Many people find dolls creepy, and I like particularly creepy dolls, so this is just a heads-up about some new topics and pics that will be popping up in my journal.  (I'll use cut-tags for picspam as usual, unless I'm deliberately trying to gunk up your friends page with crazy whorish barbies.) Don't worry, the usual baby cuteness & writing avoidance will still dominate, I'm sure (and if I'm unlucky so will the cyclical whining about endometriosis pain, but I really hope not)!

Surely depo provera is no worse than the pill? Good luck!

Thanks! It can be quite a bit worse than the pill, I gather, for women with normal reproductive function anyway. It's progestin without any estrogen, which can make for more androgenic activity. (http://www.fpnotebook.com/Gyn/Pharm/PrgstnAndrgncActvty.htm) Also true of the mini-pill, norplant, etc. However my baseline is quite a ways from normal function, and I've always tolerated hormones well, so I'm hopeful.

ETA: however, the pill is worse in the department of "can cause strokes and death" so upon further reflection, you are correct, this isn't worse.

Sounds like a good solution for you. I'm sure you'll have no problems with it, although it is probably wise to add an exercise regimen. (Surely couldn't hurt!)

I have long considered an lj project where I let people tell me a fruit or vegetable and I tell them at least three ways to prepare it, tested by this household and not just googled at random. I'm not ready to do that, but you could be the pilot program if you wanted.

Or I would just try to answer posts like that. Whichever.

Advice & tips from you would be awesome. I am not a bad cook, but I am a very limited one, and I always marvel at your food-related posts.

Thank you for cut-tagging pictures! I do not want to see creepy dolls. But I look forward to hearing what you do with rutabaga.

I do usually put the first pic in a batch into clear view, but I'll hide the haunting ones (I don't just collect creepy ones, but those are the ones people notice).

Doll collecting is interesting, although I don't do it myself.
