marydell: My hand holding a medusa head sculpture (by me) that's missing its snakes (joan)
[personal profile] marydell
Tempest has put up an interesting post, giving everyone an opportunity to vouch for our friends, particularly our friends who haven't been at their best in the course of the discussion.  Some people will be uncomfortable with the idea of amnesty or with the implications of judgement that it carries.  I'm uncomfortable with those things.  But me being comfortable right now is the last thing that's important, and besides, when it comes to judgment, I trust Tempest quite a lot, even though I don't know her IRL (yet; I'm hoping to go to Wiscon this year and meet a whole lot of people).  So I went and contributed to it, and I'd encourage* everyone on either side (or in the middle) of the discussion to also contribute, if you think someone has been unfairly characterized, or deserves a fresh chance.

Update: Fixed link

Update2: * "encourage" in the sense of "here is an opportunity," not  "I will think poorly of you if you don't go do this."

The link seems to lead to an invalid or deleted post. In any event I get a simple "Error" message when I try to follow it.

I noticed that too. Here's the link that should work: http://tempest.fluidartist.com/2009/03/11/racefail-amnesty-post/

D'oh! Thanks. This is what happens when I just think about copying a link, instead, instead of actually including my computer in the operation.

I've done it too, from time to time. :D

That is a very sweet post of hers, and a very kind comment you wrote. I hope it all does some good.

I hope so. A lot of it involved shouting at people who are really on the same side (as opposed to pointing out real sheggries like Michelle Malkin).

I think that a lot of it was in part caused by people who wanted to answer everything Right Now.

On both "sides". I frequently wanted (and still want) to swoop in and tell people, "Wait five minutes. Because I say so."

In the meantime -- "sheggries"?

It's a Jamaican term.

*peers around* Is the link to "shag" accurate?

Yup. Since it's a euphemistic form.

Thanks for the pointer. I've been entirely incapable of commenting on this whole thing - even reading little bits of it has been giving me nightmares and adding to my winter depression.

But I stuck my head above the parapet there. (I probably won't sleep tonight now.)

So thanks for the heads-up.

Eeep.

No nightmare inducing comments from me.

There was not a cloud in the sky when I got up this morning. (Slept some, intermittently).

How do you DO that? Can you do it again, on request?

Man, I wish. (SAD-ish here, too.)

But, sadly, I am not in control of the weather. (Often.)

*hugs* and sweet blessings for you, Abi. And thanks for what you said over there; I agree and I think it will do our friends some good.

I hope so; I don't think the current climate is good for either them or our community.

But I'm just a random voice. I appreciate you stepping in even more, because I think you have some standing in the discussion.

I'd like to know what you're doing to Dutch baseball.

I don't think I need to do anything to Dutch baseball. They're fine on their own.
