This weekend feels like a life-altering experience for me - I've been struggling to find balance in my life between my career and my various creative pursuits. I love my career. But I didn't realize how little I loved my various creative pursuits--drawing, 3d graphics, craftsy stuff--until this weekend, when I've fallen so deeply in love with my own writing process again. Fiction writing is the thing that's been missing, and I think it can balance out my internal see-saw if I set it in the place that's been occupied by those weaker pursuits, opposite my career.

3-dollar stimulus check

We just got a letter telling us that our stimulus check will be $3.30. We're doing pretty well and we're DINKs so we expected not to get any check at all. We didn't want a stimulus check, because while $600 would come in handy, we don't need it and other people do. Of course, what other people really need is a housing bail-out, a stable dollar, actually fair trade...stuff like that. Tax refunds piss me off. If you've collected the damn money, use it! Preferably not on lining Blackwater & Haliburton's pockets.

So not only is our dumbassed government giving people $600 if they qualify, they're giving stupid, meaningless amounts of money to people who don't qualify. At a cost of God knows how much to the government. Seriously - they sent us a letter to tell us how they calculated the $3.30, and then they're going to send us a check in a separate mailing. They probably aren't spending the time & materials equivalent of the whole $3.30 but they're not spending nothing, either.
