Well, crap
Oct. 9th, 2008 10:35 amMike's getting over the flu. I'm on my 3rd day of Tamiflu so kind of keeping it at bay. Charlie's on his 2d day of godawful-bronchial-thing. Yesterday we took him to the emergency room when he was wheezing, and the sucked a bunch of goo out of him, and he was better so we went home with a nebulizer and stuff. All night he was ok--coughing, sick, but sleeping and eating ok and with the nebulizer every 4 hours, also breathing ok. Then this morning he woke up abruptly at 5:30 hollering, and wouldn't stop crying; wouldn't eat, spiked a fever, etc. Breathing 75 breaths a minute, which is a whole lot. Back to the emergency room, more suction, some motrin, some kind of steroid to break up the fuh in his chest. Which worked pretty well and he's eating and happy again.
Good news: cultures and xrays show that it's not flu, not RSV, not pneumonia. Something viral, though.
Bad news: he's still breathing too fast; he still has a fever. They're admitting him for 24-hour observation. Mike's with him now while I run home to have a shower and medicate myself for my damn flu, and possibly take a nap, because this thing is catching up to me, and I can't let myself get bronchitis, and I'll be spending the night up there with him.
Please send good thoughts Charlie's way, if you have some to spare...he's a strong, big baby, so he should be fine, but he's not 4 months old yet, so any kind of illness is a big deal.
