Despite the recent personal and national turmoil, I'm a lucky girl and life is good, as I sometimes have to remind myself.
-Charlie's learning to smile.
-And the market recovered a little bit today.
-And I get to go to sleep early tonight.
-And the Sox get to go to the playoffs--or so I deduce from the happy phone conversation I'm overhearing between my husband and my favorite brother. Who are good friends with each other--another blessing.
-And little boy clothes and decor frequently contain dinosaurs.  Um, not contain.  frequently feature dinosaurs.
-And there is a board book about berserk hippos.

my favorite bit is the hippos moving west, where 4 of them are riding on the wagon and the other 2 are yoked up and pulling it.

OH TEH CUTE.

::is ded::

I wish the kids I know weren't too big for board books. I want to read about berserk hippos!

It is a great book. I wasn't aware of it until this week, but I have read it many times times since discovering it. It's one of the 2 or 3 that Charlie seems to actually look at while we read it.

Your baby makes me want a baby. He's *that* cute.

And it would be so, so cool (and such a different post), if the clothes DID contain dinosaurs, wouldn't it? That can be the next theme for blog the end of the world day, maybe.

I know, I keep pinching myself. And he is not just absurdly cute, he is a "trick baby" - you know, the sort of baby people show you to make you think "oh, babies aren't that much trouble, I'll have one!"

I think baby clothes should come with dinosaurs in them, the way that picture frames come with pictures of people already in them.

Puppy was a trick baby too! He was *absurdly* easy. I mean, we had some minor sleep issues and later some minor paci issues, and I had some nursing problems and he was a slightly sickly toddler and a picky eater for a while. And at three there were *some* tantrums, and last year he quit doing homework for a quarter and got a couple of C's. But, um, that's like all. That's the extent of my parenting woes. Oh, and he's a slob. But he doesn't do drugs! He's neither violent nor overly sulky!

He's a *trick* teenager, too!

But I'm DONE. In 4 years I'm an empty nester at 42. I can't be wanting babies!!!!

Oh and yay Sandra Boynton. Puppy learned to read at 2 by memorizing her books. We *all* still know Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs, mood by mood.

Oh, sure you can want babies at 42. Babies are fun! I plan on getting another when I'm 42 or 43, gods willing.

But I can see not being in a rush to do that when you've already done the kid thing and are looking forward to a break.

When I saw this photo, before I read the post, I thought, "Wow, that's a real smile!"

But who wouldn't smile when they're surrounded by cute frolicking dinosaurs?

Sandra Boynton rules.

Also Rosemary Wells. If you haven't yet discovered the joys of "Max's Breakfast", go find it.

Damn, now I want grandchildren.

Thanks! I haven't read any Rosemary Wells, but they look great (just went and looked on Amazon). I'll have to see if there are any at the board-book level. (regular books are harder to wrangle with the baby on my lap)

Yes, she has everything from board books through illustrated books to several YA novels. My favorites are "Max's Breakfast" (board book) and "Benjamin and Tulip" (picture book) but there are dozens of great ones.

Yeah, we are a smiley family. Talky, too (big surprise, right?) so he's learning to babble and hoot right along with the adults.
