It takes about 7 pounds of changing body weight in either direction to make my clothes stop fitting properly, but it takes about 15 pounds to make a larger or smaller size of clothing fit instead.

I hear you. I'm losing weight at the rate of about 12 lbs a month.

THIS IS TOTALLY TRUE.

YES. I'm going back down to my stress-and-insomnia weight, boo. The clothes I just bought in July are starting to hang on me, but I still look bulgy in my pre-happiness clothes. (I like my body. It's clothes I hate. This is awkward, in a snow-prone area.)

When I gained my most recent tranche of weight, I gave up on trousers and moved to linen skirts I made myself. Now that I'm clawing my way back down again, I have the pleasure of taking them in gradually.

I'm not even going to consider shop-bought clothes for a few kilos yet. The race is whether I can be back in my trousers by the time the weather turns, or whether it's time to get lots of warm tights and boots and make a couple of wool skirts to go with the linen.

I have a bunch of nice trousers waiting for me (I am a trouser person) if I lose another 7 pounds, which I probably won't, but at the moment I am depending on my belt for my continued dignity and employment. Skirts would be so much easier but they hardly ever have pockets, and I need pockets. I can sew a bit, but not enough to enjoy it, alas. Being a good home sewer would be the best solution...or having a stable & predictable body shape, if such a thing were possible.

yeah, my weight goes up 7 and down 7 and I have never found really good-fitting clothes for the current down-7 state, so right now I am pretty much wearing clown pants.

In winter you can coat your entire body with knit underthings, which helps the larger clothes to fit, but only if you find layers comfortable. In early fall it's usually still too warm for that, though...

Oh no, I don't need any more knitting ideas. Bad Mary, no blankie. *blush*

Today is weird--low 70s, but raining and windy so it feels colder, but still warm enough that rain jackets are hot. So I put on my jammies and I'm staying inside!

Most underthings are too fine-gaugey for hand knitting, aren't they? So you're safe unless you buy a knitting machine.

It's not possible for me to dress properly for the weather, because the building I work in is cold like Hel, particularly when outdoors is hot like Hell. Very irritating.

Oh, that's true, although I keep faunching after this one designer's patterns for lacy underthings. I have to keep reminding myself that I've never been a lacy-camisole kind of person.

The Hel/Hell problem is deeply annoying. I solve it by the judicious use of lace shawls. But in my job, I have more freedom to explore my inner eccentric than you do.

I keep a hoodie in my cube locker. I am actually fairly free to be eccentric here, but delicate or flowy clothing doesn't work well because of needing to crawl on the floor and/or handle pointy objects. IT is a line of work that does strange things to one's wardrobe over time...I sometimes forget that I own a skirt or two, when I used to wear them all the time back in my former (academic) life.

I did manage to find a pretty version (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HqHzY-Dpn9g/S7JDIGC3CRI/AAAAAAAALLU/2o0Rf-P_XaE/s400/spring-clogs-walking-company.jpg) of my beloved clunky shoes, though, so I get to be a little bit girly while still being ruthlessly practical...

I didn't think of that! And ooooh, those are pretty clogs. Girly and comfortable don't often go together, so I think you should get two pair. *nod*

This. I wear long skirts for a reason. Shopping for pants can as often as not be an exercise in shame. And if I should gain or lose, they only get worse.
