When watching a British mystery from the 80s or later, if you recognize someone from "I, Claudius" in it, you have identified the murderer.

There exists a corollary for the original Law & Order--if you go "HEY IT'S THAT GUY/CHICK," you have identified the murderer.

Heh, very true. Just like the episode of Midsomer Murders with Richard Briers. You just know they're not gonna wheel him out for anything less spectacular than murder.

LOL, I was watching Midsomer Murders when I posted this, although a different episode. I haven't finished the ep so I don't know yet if my hypothesis is correct. Although given that the thing is being set up as a parallel of Hamlet and the I, Claudius fellow (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3089534464/nm0145284) is playing the uncle, I have hopes.

yep! And it's nice to know that. It's like what I think is a rule in Bollywood films -- You just know what's going to happen, and that's part of the fun.

~g~ Unless it's BRIAN BLESSED, in which case, you've just identified the reason your television's speakers are sounding a bit stressed...

On that note, Tom-Tom added Brian Blessed's voice as an option for their GPS navigation systems. Hey, it can't be any worse than being stuck in traffic next to a car with those overamped subwoofers.

-- Steve also notes that William (KITT) Daniels is also an option. Suppose that's one way to pad out the retirement fund...

Possibly the BRIAN BLESSED option is specifically for people who wouldn't otherwise be able to hear their GPS over the cars with overamped subwoofers?

I want the ability to target other cars with my overamped subwoofers. Sending tailgaters and slow drivers in the fast lane spinning off onto the shoulders with a blast of "GORDON'S ALIIIIIVE!!!!" would give me a warm feeling of joy and make me giggle like a schoolboy.

In general, when watching a murder mystery, if one person is suspiciously more famous than the rest of the cast, you have identified the murderer.

The other day I saw a mystery that actually defied that -- Tim Curry was in the cast, and was not the murderer.

That was the Hercule Poirot mystery, yes? In that case, the posit is proved by the murderer being That Guy (John Hannah) from "The Mummy."

IS THAT WHO HE IS?!

Okay, I concede.

I love that you're able to identify the mystery based on "Tim Curry: Not Murderer!"

Curry did, however, play the UNSUB in the season ender (cliffhanger) of Criminal Minds. (not a spoiler, because as soon as you see him it's clear who he is)
