I've found that -- for the moment at least -- I can kiss the food and tap her mouth, saying earnestly, 'THANK you! You eat it now,' and that seems to satisfy her.
SteelyKid is currently very excited that she can touch & name features on our faces, but only manages to remember to be gentle about half the time when she gets to my eyes.
at one point, Peaches fractured her dad's nose with her head while he was trying to avoid getting smacked in the face by her elbow. ~sigh~
I used to think of it as revenge for the time we did things like walk too close to a door jamb with her in our arms and wack her into it by mistake. At the time it seemed we were always really distressed and she barely noticed, but I think she was taking notes....
Owww! We have not had a nose fracture yet, although he did whack me pretty hard with his skull one time. His best trick is slapping my glasses off of my face, which deprives me of the ability to see where my glasses have landed, so I have to hunker down and feel around for them.
Doorframes and babies' heads seem to have a magnetic attraction.
I have never parented, but I have noticed that when considered in the light of the total hours I have spent with my friends' toddler over his lifetime, I have spent a lot of that protecting my face.
Notice that toys/hands are incoming; protect my face; steal a glance to see what he's doing now; protect my face; steal another glance; protect my face some more...
