Do you think a marriage license should have a renewal or expiration date, just like a driver's license?

It does have an expiration date, dumbasses.  A marriage license is a license to GET married, within a certain time frame, not a license to BE married.

Ha, I didn't even catch that. I was just so annoyed at the ridiculousness of having to continually pay to stay married that I couldn't even engage beyond that.

Huh. In Massachusetts, there's a deadline to get the thing signed, but after that the license is what gets you the various and sundry privileges of state recognition.

(Sorry to harsh your snark. That question annoyed me well beyond the bounds of semantics.)

Hm, this (http://marriage.about.com/cs/marriagelicenses/p/massachusetts.htm) says the license is valid for 60 days, same as Illinois. Maybe there the signed license becomes the certification of marriage, instead of that being a separate paper like it is here?
