Charlie, who can't have flu vaccines because of his egg allergy, is sick with something flu-like.  He's been running a 99-to-100-ish fever for a couple of days and he moved along to wheezing yesterday afternoon, with a nasty chest cough to go along with.  Xopanex & Tylenol & saline nasal spray & pedialite for him.

Mike, who got the seasonal flu vax but was too healthy to qualify for the H1N1 vax last month,  has been running a 99-ish fever for a couple of days, has a headache and sore throat, and is tired tired tired.  Tyenol & gatorade for him.

I, who got the seasonal flu vax 2 months ago and the H1N1 vax 1 month ago, had a 99-ish fever for a few hours a couple of days ago, which went away on its own. Since we all seem to have gotten hit at the same time and I'm the only one really resisting it, I deduce that we've got H1N1 in da house.  I'm totally fine at the moment, with no flu-like symptoms, which is good since my guys need me to look after them. Caffeinated drinks for me.

This story brought to you by SCIENCE.

Yikes! Glad you got the vax, then.

The husband and I both got the H1N1 in November, which made us miserable together (and without any nurses or foragers to help us).

Hope your hub and Charlie feel better soon.

Ooo, that would suck. We've had one time where we all had a cold and it was terrible. I feel guilty being the only healthy one in the house but at least this way someone can play nursemaid...

I am glad to hear about the triumph of science and SO sorry to hear that poor Charlie has to feel this sick!

Thanks! I hate that he's sick, but boy, 18-months-old is so much better than 6-months-old when it comes to respiratory stuff. When he had something similar-ish last Jan, he was too young to cough productively, which meant a hospital stay with suctioning every 4 hours. Whereas this just involves him horking on Mommy every now and then. Much better.

Oh I'm so sorry! Here's hoping everyone's onthe mend very quickly!

Thanks! They seem to be coming through it pretty well, although the headache (one of the apparently-sorta-unique features of this flu) is making them both cranky. I assume it's a headache for Charlie, anyway...no words, alas.

Hope they feel better soon! Vegetarian minestrone with almost no tomato was what my teenager wanted when she was down with it.

Mm, that sounds good. Your teenager is fortunate to have a mommy who can really cook! We've mainly been doing chicken for the adults (cooked by the nice ladies at the grocery's rotisserie) and the usual set of veggies and cereals for the little guy, minus the yogurt and cheese.

SIGH.

I would offer you money or cookies to explain this to my stepkid's mother, who has decided NOT to give her asthmatic son the H1N1 vaccine "because her aunt had kind of a bad reaction."

I never cease to be amazed at the way some people really DON'T BELIEVE science.

On the other hand, go you - and hoping everyone stays hydrated and comes through quick.

This kind of thing seems to be more about inability to measure relative risk, than total disbelief in science. Although it's still extremely annoying. When asthma+flu carries a risk of death, and "kind of a bad reaction" does NOT. Grrr.

Fortunately it's going ok so far here. I used a (mean) new trick yesterday: withholding food from a toddler makes them drink more. I didn't withhold ALL food, but I gave him less than usual and skipped breakfast, and sure enough he drank everything I offered him all day, instead of refusing water like he'd done the day before. So he's getting through it ok so far...
