1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Became a mother. Went to a convention. Collaborated with other writers.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I have New Years' goals, not resolutions, and I frequently accomplish them. It's an important ritual for me to make them and I will definitely be making more for next year. I might even post them :)
3. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
Relaxing with husband and baby.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
The US of A! Specifically, Minnesota & Indiana & Pennsylvania
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Good health. Calmness.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 25, the day we became parents.
8. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
Adopting my son. Not because of the parenting part, which has been relatively easy, but because of the endless run-up--paperwork, training, learning to be comfortable with open adoption, travelling while ill to have out-of-state social worker meetings, etc. There is no momentum in adoption; you're fighting inertia the whole way.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Oh, this was a pretty good year. I'm a little fatter than last year, instead of skinnier, but, meh, whatever. I haven't been very good about my food-allergy diet, but again: meh.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yep. Endometriosis, as usual, and allergic stuff including a nasty bout of esophagitis.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hmmm, I guess that would be my Elfdoll Hazy BJD. I also got some great jewelry fromelisem and stillsostrange.
12. Where did most of your money go?
Adoption expenses! And baby expenses--furniture, clothes, $9-a-jug monkey vomit (a.k.a. "hypoallergenic formula"), etc.
13. What song will always remind you of 2008?
"Lawyers, Guns & Money" - Patrick sang it at 4th street, and Mike and I played it in the car during our mad rush to Indy to get Charlie.
14. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Hmmm, nothing really. Maybe writing but I've actually written more than usual this year.
15. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being sick
16. What was your favorite TV program?
Storm Chasers
17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Naw. Dislike, yes, but not hate.
18. What was the best book you read?
The Long Goodbye, by Raymond Chandler. Also really liked Born Standing Up by Steve Martin and Schuyler's Monster by Rob Rummel-Hudson.
19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Um. I got "Rocking the Suburbs" by Ben Folds but I don't think I can call it a discovery; everybody has it, right?
20. What was your favorite film of this year?
Favorite film that I saw was probably "Pan's Labyrinth." I think it came out last year?
21. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had a party (on or near the date), and I turned 40.
22. What kept you sane?
I'm sane?
23. Who did you miss?
My husband & baby. Working full-time & commuting 2 hours a day is a little hard right now.
24. Who was the best new person you met?
I met a heap of wonderful people at the 4th street fantasy convention--some online friends made flesh; some brand new buddies, and some new creative playmates. My life is so much richer for having made that pilgrimage. But my favorite new person, hands down (well, hand down, as he only has one), is Charlie Dell...my darling, my young chevalier.
25. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Dreams can come true long after I've stopped believing in them, as long as I keep pursuing them. Sort of a Pascal's wager for life goals.
