marydell: My hand holding a medusa head sculpture (by me) that's missing its snakes (charlie-washcloth)

Charlie's been cribless for less than a week. His big boy bed is low to the ground, with rails on the sides, and an open foot that he climbs in and out of.

A few minutes ago he cried for me, and I went in his room to find him kneeling on the floor at the foot of the bed, with the blanket around him, eyes closed and possibly still asleep, but having a tantrum nontheless.  He was also hitting the bed the way he hits me when I don't read his mind properly.

He's back in bed now, after some time to wake up all the way and calm down. I wonder if he fell out of bed?  I didn't hear a clunk and I have the monitor with me.  Alternatively, he had a bad dream and was taking it out on the bed the way he takes random stuff out on me.

In her week, SteelyKid's only fallen out once, when I didn't move the king-sized pillow from a horizontal position (i.e., so I could put my head on it and lie next to her at o-dark-hundred) to a vertical one (i.e., along the side of the bed to act as a mild barrier). At least I assume she fell, because I heard her cry and found her on the floor, even though I didn't hear her thump.

She makes up for this by delighting in kicking the wall, trying to do handstands, etc., when she ought to be going to sleep, already.

I remember that feeling of rage against inanimate objects!

Be nice if you could teach him to hit the furniture instead of you more of the time!

Charlie actually likes to go to sleep, thank goodness (well, not so much at naptime), so we don't have too many shenanigans at bedtime. He is weirdly unhyper. However he has this 2 am tantrum thing occasionally which sort of makes up for that...

I like his little bed, but it is a drag that it has a weight limit of 50 pounds, so we can't lie down with him.

Yeah, we thought about a toddler bed when we weren't sure if we could make room for everything in her current room, but after some rearranging we decided it would work and went straight to the twin bed.

It's very true that SteelyKid doesn't hit very often for a two-year-old and I am grateful, though it's hard to remember that when she's doing her contortionist impressions at 10 fucking o'clock at night.

Oh, yeah, that would not be good. I am very lucky to have a kid who sleeps a lot.

When I was a kid my brother in the bunk above mine would walk his feet across the ceiling at night, which didn't bother me any but drove the other brother in the room totally batshit. (Nowadays it would also drive me batshit, but when I was 4 it was amusing)

Oh and we went for a toddler bed mainly so we could get more use out of our hypoallergenic-firestopping-solid-gold-interior crib mattress that we had to buy for him when his allergies were all crazy. I am not spending another dime on a mattress until his toes are hanging off the end!

Heh. And maybe by then you won't need an extra-special twin mattress!
