So, two weeks ago, right in the middle of all the work in the basement, my new "Limhwa ToYou Sara" doll arrived, after a 6-month wait. She had to immediately go hide in a drawer so she wouldn't get damaged by the dust or flying debris. Yesterday I finally got to take her out and start trying wigs on her, with varying results. These wigs were all bought as options for myElfdoll Hana Devil doll, and are all a little big for the Limhwa, but I'd rather not order new if I can make one of these work. I think I actually like the red fur wig shown in the first picture, but she will definitely need fairy wings if she's going to wear her hair all cray cray like that. (Or I might twist a couple of plastic fishies into her hair so she can be Delirium.)

Toys!

As I mentioned in comments to my last Charlie post, he and his OT & PT are in cahoots to make me buy him cool toys.  Furthermore, in addition to one son, I have 4 nieces, 6 nephews, and 3 great-nephews, not counting the honorary ones, of which I have a couple. So I buy a lot of toys.  Here are some of our favorites.

Woo TOYS! )

What are some of your favorite toys?

Volks is the leading Japanese Ball-Jointed-Doll maker & retailer, possibly the leading BJD retailer, period.  I don't have any of their dolls because the resin ones are crazy expensive, but eventually I'll probably get a vinyl one.  In the meantime I do pick up outfits there sometimes, because my other SD-sized dolls (Elfdoll Hazy & DZ Celine) can wear DollfieDream-sized outfits (not shoes tho).

Anyway, the items are distinctly manga-influenced.

Reasons not to want this "Delilah Noir" doll:

www.delilahnoir.com

1. Dorky, expressionless face sculpt
2. Hand sculpt is also lacking in detail and expressiveness
3. US-designed vinyl ball-joint dolls generally suck in both poseability and body realism
4. Schoolgirl by day, whore by night! Just like in the movies. No wait, that's why I DO want her.  That and her slamming punk party dress.

By popular request, here is my Scarlet Letter Barbie:

Scarlet Letter Barbie

To make your own, find a "Pilgrim Barbie" for about 20 bucks on ebay (there are lots of them). Marvel at their bizarre decision to put a puritan in a SCARLET DRESS. Carefully clip the three SCARLET bows off of the front of her bodice. Take red pen and draw an A on the bodice where the bows were. Ta-da!

They made a Spock doll! Awwwww yeah.

Big Pimpin

No Uhura at this size yet, unfortunately, so he's hooking up with my Dynamite Girls Rufus instead. Kirk shouldn't be the only one getting the blue-haired chicks! Of course, sometimes he likes to kick back at home with some tacos or ice cream, courtesy of my Re-Ment collection and his convenient live-long-and-prosper plate-holding hand.
Nom Nom Nom

I adore dolls, and I sort of enjoy the particularly awful ones, although I mostly don't buy the particularly awful ones.  Except for when I simply must - I think I have Native American Barbie and Pioneer Barbie around here somewhere, as well as Pilgrim Barbie, who thanks to her red dress has been modified by yours truly to be Scarlet Letter Barbie.

Anyway, they're really pulling out all the stops for the 50th anniversary many-nations Barbies.  So far I've only seen three, but oooo, they are simply delicious in their awfulness, and portray our international friends in the best possible light.  (Pictures linked from Angelic Dreamz, which is a very nice store. Don't blame them! )

Red-haired barbie in mini-kilt and tam-o-shanter, wielding bagpipe.

And, um. Amazonia Barbie:

Dark-haired, but white, barbie in a couple of little bandeau things, with tattoos painted on.

No pictures yet, ARGH, but Robert Tonner does pretty good (and $$$) likeness dolls (example), although they are sometimes ugly in their accuracy. (I like dolls to look like dolls, with traditionally stylized features. His Twilight dolls are perfect*, because those actors have waxen skin and glassy eyes to begin with.)  So I have hopes for the upcoming Torchwood & Dr. Who dolls, since all of the source people are very pretty.

Once the pics are released I'll post them and squee properly.

(Also: this mildly-NSFW pic totally cracked me up. I love my fellow doll addicts.)

Creepy toys

There's a whole aisle of creepy animatronic toys at Toys R Us, some of which activate just from seeing you on the aisle.

Reanimated taxidermy kitties:

Ah, the little things...I swapped out my demon doll's brown eyes for pink. Happiness.

I got my very first Ball-Joint Doll, except she doesn't really count because she's a Robert Tonner doll, so not Asian, and more fashion-doll influenced than a proper customizable BJD. But she's sweet, and while she's nowhere near as nice as the Elfdoll Hana I have on layaway at The Doll Peddlar, I do like her little pixie face. And I got her for a hundred bucks! Wizard World Convention deal, woo! Which is (for those who aren't familiar with the expensive world of resin dolls) WAY less than Elfdoll Hana or any other BJD.

I'll do a proper write-up with photos of her joints and stuff soon, but for now here she is on my book shelf, wearing an Only Hearts club outfit.
